CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA volunteers are everyday people in our community who have backgrounds and experiences that are diverse, with the one common factor of having a heart to listen and advocate for children in foster care. Children enter the foster care system through no fault of their own.
The court appoints a CASA to serve as an advocate for the child’s best interest. The CASA volunteer builds a positive connection with the child and is often the only caring, consistent adult to listen to them. CASAs can attend school meetings to ensure academic support, they meet with the child’s team to address behavioral health, and medical services and they speak up in court to address progress and concerns as it relates to the individual child.
